Our First Market as a Bookish Merch Vendor: More Than Just Selling Products
There's something magical about seeing people light up over books. As a lifelong book lover, turning that passion into a bookish merch business has been an exciting journey—but nothing compared to experiencing my very first vendor market.
I'll admit, I was nervous. There were so many questions running through my mind. Would people stop at my table? Would they connect with my designs? Had I packed everything I needed? Like many first-time vendors, I spent days preparing, organizing inventory, and hoping all the hard work would pay off.
The moment the market opened, those nerves slowly turned into excitement. Seeing readers smile at bookmarks, stickers, tees, and other goodies reminded me exactly why I started this business. Every conversation about favorite books, fictional characters, and reading habits felt like meeting a new friend.
One of the biggest surprises was how supportive the bookish community is. Whether someone made a purchase, complimented a design, or simply stopped to chat, every interaction meant the world to me. Those moments reminded me that this business is about more than selling products—it's about celebrating stories and connecting with people who love them just as much as I do.
My first market also taught me a lot. Every event is an opportunity to learn how to create a better shopping experience, improve my displays, and discover what readers are most excited to see. I'm already looking forward to future markets and bringing even more bookish treasures to share.
